2021 Ford F-150 Recalls

The 2021 F-150 carries more recall campaigns than any other model year of America’s best-selling vehicle. That is partly a volume effect — Ford builds an enormous number of these trucks, and more trucks means more chances for a defective batch to reach customers. But it is also a genuinely difficult model year. The 2021 truck was the first of a new generation, and first-year production of a redesigned vehicle is where supplier problems and assembly errors concentrate.

The campaigns cluster in three places: the driveline, the transmission control software, and the fuel system. Driveshafts, transmission control modules and fuel pumps account for a large share of the total, and several of these have been revisited more than once as the original fix proved incomplete.

Two things about this particular truck are worth knowing before you check.

Your cab style matters. At least one 2021 campaign applies only to the SuperCab. Front seat belt webbing on some SuperCab trucks was routed through the trim sleeve without passing through the metal anchor behind it, which means the belt would not hold an occupant properly in a crash. Regular Cab and SuperCrew trucks use a different seat belt assembly and were never affected. So a campaign appearing in the list below does not automatically mean your truck is in it — body style, build plant and build date all narrow the affected batch.

Some campaigns have no fix yet. A recall covering the low-pressure fuel pump on 2021 and later trucks was opened with the remedy still under development. Owners received an interim letter telling them about the risk — the pump can fail and stall the engine while driving — well before any repair was available. If your truck falls into a campaign like this, the dealer cannot fix it yet, and the only useful thing to do is make sure Ford has your current address so the second letter reaches you when the fix arrives.

Check the list below, then call a Ford dealer with your VIN. They can see the build-level data and tell you within minutes which of these actually apply to your truck.

  • Campaigns are issued against a year, make and model, then narrowed by the manufacturer to specific build dates. A match here means the campaign covers this model — not that it covers this individual vehicle.
  • Only a franchised dealer can confirm whether a specific VIN falls inside an affected build range, and recall repairs are free.
  • New campaigns open continuously. A vehicle with nothing outstanding today can be recalled next year.

What to do next

Note any campaign number that appears above, then contact any Ford dealer — not necessarily the one that sold you the truck. Recall work is free regardless of age, mileage or how many owners the truck has had, and a dealer cannot refuse it because the warranty has expired.

If a campaign lists a remedy that is still in development, ask the dealer to confirm the expected timing and whether Ford has issued any interim guidance on using the vehicle in the meantime.

Nothing showing? Check again in a few months. The 2021 F-150 was still collecting new campaigns four years after it went on sale.
