The Low Rider ST is a high-volume Softail, and 2024 sits at the tail end of a model run that has collected several campaigns since 2022. Most of them share a characteristic that makes them easy to get wrong: they cover some 2024 bikes, not all of them.
The one most owners will be looking for concerns the front brake lines. Harley filed it with NHTSA in October 2024 as campaign 24V-753, its own reference 0187. On affected motorcycles the brake line running between the front lever and the calipers can touch the fuel tank, the result of the line being bent out of position during assembly. Over enough miles the contact wears the line, and a breach means losing fluid and losing front braking. Around 15,778 machines were covered in total, of which roughly 15,039 were 2022 to 2024 Low Rider STs. Harley identified the problem from nine field reports; no owner complaints had been filed about it at the time. Dealers inspect the line and replace it where needed, at no cost.
This one is defined by a VIN range, so the model year alone tells you nothing. For the Low Rider ST the covered range runs from 1HD1YXZ15NB010261 to 1HD1YXZ15RB050278, and it is not sequential — a bike can sit inside those two endpoints and still be outside the campaign. There is no way to work this out yourself. A dealer can confirm it from the VIN in a couple of minutes.
A separate Softail campaign covering the rear shock pre-load adjuster mounting tab also reaches FXLRST machines from 2022 to 2024. The concern there is a tab that can fracture and score the rear tyre, with the risk of a puncture. It appears in the list below if it applies to this model year.
One more thing specific to Harley owners: NHTSA records these bikes under the model code, not the name on the tank. If you search their site for “Low Rider ST” you may find nothing at all, while “FXLRST” returns everything. That is a filing convention, not an absence of records, and it catches people out constantly.
2024 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FXLRST
2 recall campaigns cover this year, make and model. The defect Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain 2022 FXRST and 2022-2024 FXLRST motorcycles. The front brake lines may contact the fuel tank and become damaged, possibly resulting in a brake fluid leak and a loss of front brake function. The mounting tab on the rear shock pre-load adjuster may break, allowing the rear shock absorber adjuster to damage the rear tire, causing a loss of tire pressure. If left unrepaired A sudden loss of tire pressure increases the risk of a crash. The fix Dealers will install a new bracket, free of charge. What to do next
Take any campaign number above to a Harley-Davidson dealer with your VIN. Recall work is free regardless of mileage, how long you have owned the bike, or whether you bought it new. A dealer cannot charge you for it and cannot refuse it because the warranty has run out.
If the front brake recall applies to your machine and you have not had the work done, treat it as the priority. A gradual loss of front brake fluid is the kind of fault a rider may not notice until the lever goes soft at exactly the wrong moment.
Nothing listed? Check again in a few months. The Low Rider ST has picked up new campaigns more than once since 2022, and a bike that is clear today can be recalled next year.
