ArcelorMittal has become the first company in Brazil to be certified under the FIA Road Safety Index, receiving the programme’s maximum three-star rating for its facility in Santa Catarina.
According to an official announcement by the FIA, the recognition was presented during the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of São Paulo.
The certification followed an independent assessment of the company’s approach to managing road-related risks within its industrial and logistics operations.

The FIA Road Safety Index provides organisations with a data-driven framework for assessing, managing, reporting and improving their road safety performance.
Under the index’s current rating system, three stars represent the highest available level. The rating indicates that an organisation understands its road safety exposure and has established systems to manage the identified risks effectively.
The assessment examines areas including:
- Management of transport contractors

João Bosco Reis da Silva, Head of Sustainability at ArcelorMittal Flat Latam, said the rating recognised the company’s commitment to protecting employees, contractors and the communities in which it operates.
He added that the certification validated the safety management systems implemented at the Santa Catarina operation and could encourage other Brazilian industries to address road safety throughout their value chains.

Several other Brazilian organisations, including Célere Intralogística, CEVA Logistics, Ecovias, Grupo Pereira and Via Appia, expressed interest in participating in the assessment programme following its Brazilian launch. According to the FIA, some have already committed to entering the formal evaluation process.

For companies with complex supply chains, road safety risks can extend beyond vehicles registered directly to the business. Contractor performance, driver competence, journey scheduling and management oversight can all influence the likelihood of a serious incident.
The FIA Road Safety Index seeks to make this wider corporate road safety footprint measurable and comparable.
